Christian? Trans-gendered? It is NOT who you are.

If you are a born again Christian, then you are not trans-gendered.

A Christian, one who has accepted Jesus’ invitation for salvation and grace and has received His spirit into their heart, this one belongs to Christ. Once the Holy Spirit takes up residence in a person’s heart, they literally become ‘Christ’s possession’ (Ephesians 1:14), ‘bought by Christ’ (1 Corinthians 7:23) and ‘purchased by Christ’ (Revelation 5:9). The Christian has been made the righteousness of God in Christ (2 Corinthians 5:21)! They are now a "joint-heir with Him" (Romans 8:17). According to Strong's Concordance that word joint-heir refers to a personal equality based on an equality of possession.

In other words, one who is a Christ-ian does not belong to the world, nor are they under the power of the ruler of the world anymore. While they are susceptible to his temptations, pressures and persecutions, they do not belong to the world and its corruption anymore than a giraffe belongs in the sea. The Bible is very black and white concerning the identity of believers and non-believers. In his letter to the church at Corinth, Paul calls Christians ‘light’ and non-believers ‘darkness’ (2 Corinthians 6:14). Either you are one or the other. There are no grey shades of Christians. Either you a Christ’s or you belong to the world.

Just as light and darkness cannot be joined, the name ‘Christ’ cannot be joined to the name ‘trans-gendered’. The two are totally opposed to each other. One is the Truth the other is a lie, from one the Spirit of Truth proceeds, from the other the spirit of error proceeds. As the old English saying goes ‘never the twain shall meet’.

These statements are not the same as saying that one who is a Christian cannot struggle with a trans-gender temptation. Neither is it stating that Christians cannot choose to give themselves over to a trans-gender identity. A Christians may choose, either intentionally or through ignorance, to give themselves over to another or allow another to take control. This freedom of choice, however, is only available to the Christian, for it is only the Christian who has been given freedom. The non-believer, however, is bound by the enemy and totally under his power, having no opportunity of freedom, unless Jesus Christ sets him free.

Trans-genderism is a confusion of gender identity. Identity! Therefore the Christian needs to be very categorical about to whom they choose to identify. The statement made by Paul in Romans 6:16 “To whom do you present yourselves slaves to obey, you are that one’s slaves whom you obey.” It is a question and statement of mastery.

Who will be your master? Will your ruler be Christ? Will your ruler be sin? Will your ruler be a ‘trans-gender identity’ or will your ruler be a ‘righteousness in Jesus’ identity’?

The Christian must make a fully determined decision, “I will not let trans-genderism rule in my life. Trans-genderism will not be my defining identity. My identity, whether it is my gender identity or my spiritual identity, is found in Jesus Christ alone.”

This determined decision however must not rest on human power and strength. Human will-power has no authority over sin nor is it sufficient to resist its urges. This is why it is impossible for the non-believer, who has only his own power and strength to draw on, to gain any mastery over a trans-gender condition. This is impossible! The only answer is for them to call on the name of Jesus, asking for His forgiveness, salvation and the gift of the indwelling Holy Spirit.

The answer for the believer is to align their lives, their thought life and behaviour with the Word of Truth. It is God’s truth alone, by the power of the Spirit of Truth, who confronts the power of the lie, overcoming it and conquering it. This is the same Spirit who works doing a transforming and conforming work to the name of Christ. Yet it requires a daily diligence to align your life, your thoughts or actions, into obedience to the word of righteousness. “Having been set free from sin, you became slaves of righteousness. … now having been set free from sin, and having become slaves of God, you have your fruit to holiness, and the end, everlasting life” (Romans 6:18 and 22). Only the believer is free to choose who whom they present themselves, for Christ has set them free.
